Compatta e ben curata ad un primo sguardo, la LiveWire è spinta da un motore elettrico in grado di produrre coppia istantanea nel momento in cui si gira la manopola dell’acceleratore – caratteristiche che si traduce in accelerazioni brucianti per una guida entusiasmante, questo impressiona ad un primo utilizzo. Ovviamente il motore è posizionato nella parte inferiore della moto per abbassare il baricentro e migliorare la maneggevolezza a tutte le velocità nonché il controllo a moto ferma, sicuramente dal punto di vista estetico non è il massimo e toglie quello che per molti è il vero cuore di un’Harley, il motore a V, ma questo è il futuro per certi aspetti. Al posto del mitico rombo la LiveWire è studiato in modo da produrre un sibilo che sale di intensità e di tono con la velocità. Il telaio è disegnato per garantire maneggevolezza e reattività quindi controllo assoluto sia nella guida, sospensioni ad alte prestazioni Showa® completamente regolabili, è equipaggiata con pinze freno anteriori Brembo Monoblock su un doppio disco da 300 mm di diametro e assicurano potenza superiore e assoluto controllo in ogni condizione di frenata. Equipaggiata con uno schermo a colori con tecnologia touch screen TFT (a cristalli liquidi ad alta qualità) con funzioni di connettività Bluetooth, navigazione, audio musicale e altro.
Il cuore della LiveWire è alimentato da una batteria principale (definita RESS – Rechargeable Energy Storage System) a ioni di litio con celle collocate in un involucro di alluminio pressofuso alettato. La carica può essere completata utilizzando un caricatore di bordo di Livello 1 che può essere collegato a una presa standard con un cavo posto sotto la sella. La LiveWire può anche essere caricata con caricatori di Livello 2 e Livello 3, o DC Fast Charge (DCFC), attraverso un collegamento SAE J1772, (per il mercato USA), o dispositivi di collegamento CCS2 – IEC tipo 2 per i mercati internazionali. Tutti i concessionari Harley-Davidson che venderanno il modello LiveWire offriranno ai clienti una colonnina pubblica di ricarica.
Ragazzi sicuramente chi è legato alla tradizione Harley storcerà il naso davanti a questo modello, ma c’è da pensare che il mercato dei veicoli a motore sta rapidamente cambiando e il futuro sarà sempre più elettrico sia per le auto prima di tutto che per le moto ed è normale che anche un marchio come Harley Davidson si muova in questa direzione e punti una piccola parte della sua gamma su modelli come questi.

Charging can be completed using a Level 1 on-board charger that can be connected to a standard socket with a cable under the seat. LiveWire can also be loaded with Level 2 and Level 3 chargers, or DC Fast Charge (DCFC), through a SAE J1772 connection (for the US market), or CCS2 – IEC type 2 connection devices for international markets. All Harley-Davidson dealers who will sell the LiveWire model will offer customers a public charging column.
